For live music, walk out on the Cocoa Beach Pier at the beach or The Cove at Port Canaveral, where many of the bars and restaurants there feature bands on weekends, including the always lively Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar, 500 Glen Cheek Dr. (tel. 321/868-2226), which actually has some form of entertainment there daily, be it official or just people-watching.
The tap room at the Carib Brewery, 200 Imperial Blvd. (tel; 321/728-4114) is the place for suds; they have daily happy hours from 4 to 6pm and late-night happy hours from 9pm until closing. Ellie Mae’s Tiki Bar, 116 Jackson Ave., (tel. 321/613-5870) is a Polynesian-themed, boozy backyard party. It kicks off Wednesdays through Sundays at 11am and continues into the night with lawn games and Adirondack chairs out back. Cocktails are half off on weekdays from 2 to 5pm, because day drinking on vacation is always a good idea. Head there Sundays for Biscuits and Bloody Marys from 11am to 1pm.
From Bloody Marys to hail Marys, check out the Gothic-themed, stained-glassy Preacher Bar, 8699 Astronaut Blvd. (tel. 321/613-4629), a very dimly lit place serving “soulful food and Abbey ales. ” It’s open until 1am on the weekends and has fun happy hours.
