Getting to Florida's Space Coast

The nearest airport is Melbourne Orlando International Airport (tel. 321/723-6227), 22 miles south of Cocoa Beach, served by Allegiant, American, Delta, and Sun Country. Orlando International Airport, about 35 miles to the west, is a much larger hub with many more flight options and generally less expensive fares. It’s an easy 45-minute drive from the Orlando Airport to the beaches via the Bee Line Expressway (Fla. 528, a toll road)—it can take almost that long from the Melbourne Airport, where Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty all have car-rental desks. The Melbourne Airport Express (tel. 321/724-1600) will take you from the Melbourne Airport to most local destinations from $75. Uber and Lyft tend to be less expensive.

In 2024 it was announced that a new Brightline train station would open in Cocoa Beach, located near State Road 528 and U.S. Route 1 with the goal of improving connectivity for residents and visitors to the Space Coast. Completion was expected sometime in 2025.

Getting Around Florida's Space Coast

A car is essential in this area. If you’re not coming by car, you can rent one at the airport. 321 Transit (tel. 321/633-1878) operates buses ($1.50 adults, 75 cents seniors and students), but routes tend to be circuitous and extremely time-consuming.
