Coober Pedy's golf course has to rank as one of the world's most unusual golf courses. The 18-hole course has plastic "grass", crushed-rock fairways, and no water hazards -- although the dry creek beds make great sand traps. A special club rule is "rock relief": You are allowed a little grace if your ball lands on a rock. In summer, when it's too hot during the day, night golf is the way to go. Using luminous balls, you simply aim for the illuminated flag stick! Tip: Take your oldest clubs. It's around A$10 for a game, and you'll need to organize access through the folks at the Old Timers Mine (tel. 08/8672 5555) on Crowders Gully Road.
