The streets of Copán Ruínas are brimming with simple souvenir shops selling T-shirts, jade carvings, hammocks, masks, cigars, and Guatemalan crafts and textiles. Several good markets are scattered within a couple of blocks of the square, with independent vendors who haul their crafts in from the surrounding villages.
La Casa de Todo (tel. 504/2651-4185), 1 block downhill from the Banco de Occidente corner of the central plaza, is an excellent gift shop with unique local crafts, a coffee shop, an Internet cafe, and a simple restaurant serving Guatemalan fare; they even have a couple of rooms for overnight stays or can do your laundry. Casa del Jade, 1 block north of the plaza, is part of a Guatemalan chain that sells a wide variety of jewelry and collectibles that contain the Maya's preferred stone. The boutique gift shops beneath the hotel Yat B'alam, on Calle la Independencia, have one of the most unique and upscale selections of Honduran-made crafts, accessories, and home furnishings.
