Located deep in scenic McElmo Canyon southwest of Cortez, this remote and unique property consists of four cabins and houses that are a perfect fit for the surroundings—a 2,000-acre working sheep and cattle ranch, complete with dogs, chickens, and fruit trees. The most extravagant lodging, the slick Mokee House, features authentic Pueblo-style architecture and commanding views, and can sleep up to five (there is a 1-week minimum). There is also the historic Elden Stone House, the charming Cowboy Log Cabin, and the largest, the Pioneer House, sleeping up to seven. The décor is eclectic and fascinating—there are relics from the ranch that are more than a century old next to contemporary Southwestern pieces, Mexican masks, and model trains.
