In the 10th-century church of St. Cronan, this center provides genealogical research and explains the heritage and history of the East Clare area through a series of exhibits and an audiovisual presentation. A pier across the road is the starting point for a 15-minute excursion in an eight-seat boat on Lough Derg to nearby Inishcealtra (Holy Island), a 7th-century monastic settlement. The remains include a tall round tower that has long since lost its pointed roof, as well as four chapels, hermit cells, and graves that date from the settlement's earliest days.
