Irish Pewtermill Centre
In an 11th-century mill originally constructed for the nunnery of St. Moling, Ireland’s oldest pewter mill makes a nice diversion. There’s a little museum devoted to the craft, but the main attraction is the skilled artisans who work here, still casting pewter in antique molds, some of which are 300 years old. Casting takes place most days, usually in the morning—make an appointment in advance if you want to watch the craftsmen or visit the museum (both are free). The showroom has a wide selection of high-quality, hand-cast pewter gifts for sale, from bowls to brooches, at reasonable prices.
