This large, salmon-pink manor house, about 10 minutes’ drive from the Moone High Cross, would be a charming place to stay even without such warm and friendly owners—but as it is, you’re made to feel like a houseguest at a grand country pad. Owners Antoinette and Andrew know just how to put guests at ease (the delicious, home-baked scones on arrival help), and they’ve done a beautiful job restoring Andrew’s ancestral home. The building dates mostly to the 1690s, though parts are older. The pleasant (and very spacious) bedrooms are decorated in a tasteful Georgian style, and have recently been renovated—though be aware that not all rooms have a private bath. One room is a family room (about €30 extra). Breakfasts are, of course, delicious (try the homemade soda bread and fall in love), and while there’s no restaurant, you can pre-book evening meals, prepared by a local chef.
