St. Francis Abbey Brewery
Established in 1710 by John Smithwick, the brewery occupies a site that once belonged to the 12th-century Abbey of St. Francis. A popular local beer called Smithwick's is produced here, as are Budweiser and Land Kilkenny Irish beer. Tours of the brewery have an unusual selling point—you get to see the rather sorry remains of the original, 12th century St. Francis Abbey, located on the brewery grounds. Though certainly not unimpressive in themselves, the ruins are hardly done justice by being sandwiched between some industrial warehouses and a large parking lot.
