Newgrange Farm
After all that history, the kids will thank you for briging them to this busy farm, where farmer Willie Redhouse and his family offer a 1 1/2-hour tour. You can feed the ducks, groom a calf, and bottle-feed the lambs and kid goats. Children can hold a newborn chick, pet a pony, and play with the pigs, and look at pheasants and rare birds in the aviaries. Tractor rides cost an extra €2.50. The high point of the week occurs every Sunday afternoon (and on Irish national holidays), when the sheep take to the track with teddy bear jockeys for the weekly derby. (Call to check race times.) Demonstrations show farm skills such as threshing and horseshoeing, and sheepdogs show off their herding skills. The farm has kids' play areas, a coffee shop, and plenty of picnic space. The price is a little steep, but family discounts kick in at just one adult and one child.
