Lough Derg is not far from this homey farmhouse B&B, where hostess Val Beamish and her super-friendly dogs welcome those seeking a bit of peace and tranquility. The enormous grounds provide ingredients for her wonderful breakfasts—fruits, vegetables, eggs, even honey, all fresh-as-can-be. (What hasn’t come from the garden almost certainly didn’t have far to travel.) Three-course dinners, again featuring plenty of local produce, can be reserved for €30 per head. Guest rooms are colorful and artsy. There’s a truly restful atmosphere here, enhanced by the almost total lack of television—none in the rooms, though there is one in the lobby if you really must. Non–dog lovers should probably avoid this place though, as should those with mobility problems (all bedrooms are upstairs).
