There are two sides to this place; drop in at lunchtime for a restorative, hearty, but informal meal (beer-battered cod and chips, perhaps, or a tasty burger), or come in the evening for a more elaborate brasserie-style menu, combining traditional Irish flavors with wider influences. Start with a tasty chicken salad, then go for an herby roast chicken with carrot and tarragon, or barbecued monkfish tale with saffron custard and peperonata. Come on Thursday or Friday night for the great-value set menu: four courses for just €30, plus free entry to the Centenary Stores (; 053/912-4424), a popular nightclub on Charlotte Street. Open Thursday to Saturday evenings, the Little Yard is an alternative dining space, part bar, part tapas restaurant. It’s also open Sunday nights on holiday weekends.
