As you meander along the country roads that crisscross the valley, be sure to visit this artisan cidery and its friendly little bistro. The dining room is a rambling, rustic space filled with cheerful local art and surrounded by windows that open out over the apple orchards. Owner Rick Pipes makes his ciders from proper heritage cider apples, and you will be surprised by the variety of flavors they can produce, from the light, dry Traditional to the strong, sharp Scrumpy, and sweet, rich, honeyed Cyser. All this gives the chefs plenty of flavors to play with as they create their menus. Expect casual but hearty fare such as sandwiches and salads, cider baby-back pork ribs, and buttermilk chicken strips. Sundays are pizza nights, when they feature live music (everything from beach rock to Irish/East Coast to indie roots) and artisan pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven—the same oven that produces all the breads, pastries, and apple pies.
