This is one of New England's most scenic ski areas, and Attitash is also a good mountain for families and skiers at the intermediate-to-advanced level. The resort consists of 70 or so trails across two peaks: 1,750-foot Attitash and adjacent Bear Peak. Dotted with rugged rock outcroppings and full of sweeping views of Mount Washington and the Presidential Range (there's also an observation tower on the main summit), this is an eye-popping place -- with excellent skiing. Look for great cruising runs and a handful of challenging drops. Snowboarders can hone their skills at the terrain park. You can stay right on the mountain in the 143-unit summit hotel. As with many of these New Hampshire ski hills, though, the base area is sleepy at night; if you're looking for a beer or some live music, pile into the car and drive about 15 minutes to North Conway, where you'll find both of those things.
