Besides karaoke catering to naughty Japanese businessmen, there are few nice nightspots in the city. Resident foreigners favor the subterranean Makewei, known to English-speakers as Dave's Bar, south end of Qiyi Jie (tel. 0411/8282-2345; from 1pm until late), a U.N. of watering holes just northeast of Zhongshan Guangchang. Americans, Russians, Europeans, Asians, and Africans mix and flirt at Dave's without prejudice over bottles of Tsingtao beer. If you love live jazz and blues, go to Blossom Jazz Music Club (Huamandou Jueshi Julebu), Kunming Jie 50 (tel. 0411/82802216; 5pm-1:30am), a local band playing there from 8:30pm to midnight every night. I-55 and its neighboring pubs are open until midnight.
