The most beautiful -- and exclusive -- untouched bays and coves along the Turkish Mediterranean converge in the village of Göcek. Göcek is recognized by the yachting community as one of the pearls of the Mediterranean, with its postcard-worthy marina, and a village with at least a few years to go before complete gentrification.
The arrival of the Swissôtel at Göcek Marina made it all happen (tel. 800/637-9477 in the Americas or 0252/645-2760 local; fax 0252/645-2767; www.swissotel.com). Unlike the typical five-star Swissôtels, this one is a chic and luxurious mini-village, tastefully laid out on a flat plain at the foot of the mountain range. The manicured lawns give the aura of a country club -- the only thing that's missing is a golf course. Doubles cost between 225€ and 320€ in July and August. Rates are lower in shoulder season. The hotel is closed November through May. Opening in 2003 was the Göcek Lykia Resort Hotel (tel. 0252/645-2828; fax 0252/645-2827; www.goceklykiaresort.com), with its pre-classical motifs and a "real" Lycian pool. Rates for a double from May through October are 170€, 220€ for a deluxe room. For a more home-style experience, consider the Yonca Resort (tel. 0252/645-2255; fax 0252/645-2275; www.yoncaresort.com), a private home that's been converted into a B&B. The eight rooms have antique furnishings and cost 80€ for a double. When you're not promenading down the main street, you can swim and relax in the garden pool.
