Panamint Springs Resort
A laid-back, low-price change of pace from the slicker Xanterra-managed properties in the park, Panamint Springs Resort is on the west side of Death Valley at the foot of the Panamint Mountains. Rooms are spartan but well maintained (translation: they’re appropriate for folks who simply want a decent, cheap place to crash). Even less expensive—and simple—are the tent-cabins for $35 at the campground across the street. Historical trivia: The resort was established in 1937 by Agnes Cody, the cousin of Buffalo Bill.
