Eating Down on the Farm
For a one-of-a-kind dining experience in Delaware County, head to Stone & Thistle Farm and its weekend-only farm restaurant, Fable. Farm-to-table informs not only the name and provisions, but the entire ethos behind this eco-foodie initiative (1211 Kelso Rd., East Meredith, NY 13757; tel. 607/278-5800; www.stoneandthistlefarm.com/fable.htm). A gourmet, five-course, prix-fixe dinner ($48-$50 per person, excluding tax, service, wine, and beer) on Saturday night only follows a 6:30pm farm tour. Diners sit down to a meal of local organic produce and grass-fed meats at a communal table in a modern addition to the 1860 Greek Revival farmhouse. There's New York beer and wine available, but you can bring your own for a $10 corkage fee. Fable also serves a terrific buffet brunch ($15 per person) on Sunday morning, which includes an 11am tour of the farm.
