This museum was founded in the 1980s to highlight outstanding artists of Cape Cod and the Islands. The founders felt that unless they began a repository for the Cape’s art, it would migrate to museums all over the country, leaving little for locals to enjoy. The museum’s several galleries regularly feature multiple exhibits of current and past Cape artists. There is also a fine outdoor sculpture garden with pieces from the museum’s permanent collection. The museum is on the grounds of the Cape Cod Center for the Arts, which includes the Cape Playhouse and the Cape Cinema.
