Channel House
Lock me in the Cuckoo’s Nest and throw away the key. I won’t mind. This extraordinary suite, at the top of the Channel House, is perched right above the ocean—and I mean right above. I don’t think there’s a room anywhere on the Oregon coast that is closer to the water, except the equally fabulous suites on the first and second floors. Lie in bed and the ocean is right there in front of you with no intervening beach, just a bit of rocky shoreline. From these suites, you can step outside and watch the boats making their tricky entrances and departures to and from Depoe Bay . . . while sitting in your outdoor whirlpool. It’s hard not to love Channel House, because it has everything you could possibly want for a memorable coast experience. The decor is tasteful, upscale, and comfy; there are fireplaces to ward off any chill or induce romance or reverie; the kitchens are modern; and the views—well, once you see them, you’ll know why I want to be locked in the Cuckoo’s Nest.
