Citadel (La Citadelle)
The 16th-century Citadel, a fortress perched spectacularly on a cliff high above the town and river, can be reached by car or téléphérique (cable car). Alternatively, if you're feeling energetic or can't turn down the challenge, climb the 408 steep steps leading to the bluff top and spectacular views of the town and river. The Musée d'Armes (Weapons Museum) inside has cannon and other firearms, and there's an audiovisual historical presentation in three languages (including English). But it's the view that takes your breath away. You might want to spend an hour or two wandering around up here.
