Celebrity Chef José Andrés’s handsome restaurant at the Ritz Reserve Dorado Beach is a worthy splurge. Known for avant-garde Spanish cuisine, here the chef incorporates Puerto Rican and Caribbean flavors into many of the dishes here (though his signature dishes do make an appearance on the menu). The delicious spiny Caribbean lobster asopao and the Guavate style roast pork with caramelized mango sauce are spectacular riffs on local specialties, and the big Delmonico rib-eye is to die for. Make sure to try the tomato bread at some point during your meal, which should end with the delightful passionfruit flan. For breakfast, the best dish is the huevos a la cubana, which the menu says is “Like José’s mom made:” two fried eggs, sautéed rice, crispy bacon, caramelized banana, and tomato sauce. Tip: Ask for a terrace table overlooking the ocean; the ambiance in the main dining room doesn’t come close to matching the outdoor space.
