Cobscook Shores

A network of 16 fee-free waterfront parks scattered around Cobscook Bay, this project of a conservation-minded philanthrophist opened in 2021. With one outlying exception, no two parks are more than a few miles from one another, and the Cobscook Shores map, available online and at kiosks at the park, shows recommended routes to bike or paddle from one to the next. All offer lovely stretches of waterfront (Cobscook Bay has some of the world’s most dramatic tides); the chance to spot seals, eagles, and ospreys; and anywhere from a half-mile to four miles of trail, some paved, some accessing lovely picnic pavilions. At Race Point, a trail lead to views of a reversing falls, where a stretch of rapids runs in different directions, depending on the tide. Morong Cove has a trail along a series of high bluffs. Each mini-park has its own charms.
