While Drumheller is a well-served tourist destination, quality accommodations are still sparse. If you plan to go in the summer book well ahead, as the three major chain hotels can fill up fast.

Camping

There are several campgrounds along the Dinosaur Trail, which can be found at www.traveldrumheller.com/campgrounds.html. The oldest and best established of these -- not to mention the closest to the Royal Tyrrell -- is the Dinosaur Trail RV Resort (tel. 403/823-9333; www.holidaytrailsresorts.com/dinosaurtrail; C$43 [full RV hookup]; C$36 [RV, power only]; C$30 [tenting] per night). Just a few minutes west of the museum entrance, the campground sits on the banks of the Red Deer River. A choice of 250 hook-ups provides ample space. Tenting is also available. Amenities include pool, shower, laundry, canoe rentals, and a convenience store. Open May 1 to September 30. Reservations strongly recommended.
