Proof that not all good food experiences come with a hefty price tag, Leo Burdock’s is probably the most famous fish and chip shop in Ireland. In fact, it’s virtually de rigueur for passing celebrities to pop in; the photographic “wall of fame” includes Sandra Bullock, Russell Crowe, and Tom Cruise. But don’t come expecting cutting-edge cuisine, because Leo Burdock’s still trades on the same simple, winning formula it has used since 1913: battered fresh fish (cod, sole, ray, or scampi) and thick chips (like very fat steak fries), all cooked the old-fashioned way, in beef drippings. There are other options on the menu, including hamburgers, but frankly what’s the point of coming to a place like this if you don’t order the one thing for which it’s world-famous?
