Pitlochry-bound buses leaving from Perth make a stopover in Dunkeld, letting you off at the Dunkeld Car Park, which is at the train station (trip time: 50 min.). The cost is £6.20. Contact Stagecoach (tel. 01738/629-339; www.stagecoachbus.com).

Driving from Aberfeldy, take A827 east until you reach the junction of A9 heading south to Dunkeld.

It's open April to June and September 9 to October 27, Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 5:30pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm; July 1 to September 8, Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 6:30pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm; October 28 to December, Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 5:30pm (closed Jan-Mar).
