Getting There -- The best route by rail is to travel to Minehead via Taunton, which is easily reached on the main London-Penzance line from Paddington Station in London. For rail information, call tel. 0845/748-4950 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk. From Minehead, a taxi or bus takes you to Dunster.
At Taunton, you can take one of the seven First Somerset coaches (tel. 0845/6064446; www.firstgroup.com) leaving hourly Monday through Saturday, with only one coach on Sunday. Trip time is 1 hour and 10 minutes. Buses (no. 28 or 398) from Minehead stop in Dunster Village at the rate of one per hour.
If driving from London, head west along the M4, cutting south at the junction with the M5 until you reach the junction with the A39, going west to Minehead. Before your final approach to Minehead, cut south to Dunster along the A396.
Visitor Information -- Dunster doesn't have an official tourist office, but Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre is at Dunster Steep (tel. 01643/821835; www.touruk.co.uk/somerset/som-dunster.htm), 3km (2 miles) east of Minehead. It's open from Easter to October daily 10am to 5pm, plus limited hours in winter (call ahead).
