Blue Lake Ranch
This is Colorado's first B&B, operating since 1974, and for my money, it's also the best. Featuring over 10,000 irises in full summer bloom, the perfectly sculpted 200 acres here are a beautiful tableau of wildflowers and greenery, with a turtle- and trout-laden lake, sweeping views, and a secluded location about 10 miles southwest of Durango. Stylishly adorned with Southwestern art, rooms are in the main house and standalone structures nestled in the surrounding woodland, ranging from the cozy and colorful La Plata Vista Room (with a king bed and a majestic view) to the Cabin on the Lake (sleeping up to eight on the aforementioned lake). There is also four miles of river access for anglers, fall hunting packages, and the perfect setting for unadulterated relaxation—this is just the place to unwind and do nothing.
