If ever there was a view that qualified as “wow factor”, this would be it: miles of coastline dotted with islands, and boats bobbing gently in the harbor. Guestrooms are basic but pleasant, with modern furnishings (superior rooms, with a little more space, can be had for €20 extra). Each has a view of the sea. The Capricho restaurant serves good modern Irish cuisine, using plenty of local produce, including fish direct from the pier and meat from local and regional farms; however, prices are high (€25–€28 for a main course), and there aren’t a lot of alternatives around here. Hotel guests have free use of a swanky new spa and health club at sister property Garryvoe Hotel (www.thebayviewhotel.com; 021/464-6746), about 5 minutes’ drive down the coast. Check the website for good deals and special offers, including dinner, bed-and-breakfast packages and senior discounts. The Bayview is closed from November to Easter.
