David Ramsden's mutt-themed empire expands and contracts like a yo-yo dieter. Seadogs (the fishy one) Amore Dogs (Italian) and the Underdogs basement bar have bitten the dust; however, the original top dog clearly has a winning recipe. This shabby-chic little joint (old wooden pews and an eclectic smattering of tongue-in-cheek dog memorabilia) on the first floor of a grand Georgian townhouse keeps pulling them in with its off-beat menu—think devilled ox liver, offal toast, and Arbroath smokie fishcakes with vanilla sauce—and prices that won't mug your wallet. For dessert, don't miss the legendary lemon posset with an oat and ginger biscuit.
