Bird Watching in El Salvador
El Salvador's bird life is surprisingly rich, considering its lack of forest. Parque Nacional Los Volcanes is home to emerald toucanets, woodpeckers, and motmots. Montecristo and El Imposible national parks have abundant birdlife, and Barra de Santiago in the west of the country has yellow-naped parrots and white-fronted parrots nesting in its estuary and mangrove swamps. To catch flocks of migratory birds, take a boat trip around Lago de Suchitlán near Suchitoto.
