VISITOR INFORMATION: For real insight into the town’s history, pick up a walking-tour brochure from the Elora & Fergus Tourism Information Centre, located at 10 E. Mill St. (https://elorafergus.ca; tel. 877/242-6353 or 519/846-9691 ext. 382). It's open daily 10am to 5pm.

GETTING THERE: If you’re driving from Toronto, take Hwy. 401 W to Hwy. 6, drive north to Hwy. 7 E, then get back on Hwy. 6 N and take it into Fergus. From Fergus, take Hwy. 18 W to Elora. Greyhound (tel. 877/463-6446; www.greyhound.ca) buses do run to Elora, though infrequently, and the trip is not direct (often there is a multi-hour stop in Guelph). It’s best to rent a car.
