Angel of the North
Looming above the A1 in Gateshead is the controversial Angel of the North. British sculptor Antony Gormley's steel work is a 20m-tall (60-ft.) statue towering above a former coal mine. Apart from its historical significance to the region, the chosen site can be seen as an expression of England's transition from the industrial to the information age.
