The marble accented Italian restaurant in the El Conquistador is luxurious and romantic, the perfect fit for the elegantly prepared northern Italian classics. The clams Alfonso; baked mushrooms stuffed with ricotta, basil, and sundried tomatoes; and the asparagus with prosciutto and tomatoes are all stand out appetizers. But it’s dishes like the filet mignon sorrentina with prosciutto, eggplant, marinara sauce, and mozzarella, that make me love this place. Dreamy risottos such as Maine lobster and champagne and beef tenderloin with Chianti only increase the passion, as does the sheer Roman hedonism of the desserts. Note that the portions are extra-large here, as are the prices, so don’t be shy about sharing.
