The airstrip is on the northern side of the atoll, 4km (3 1/2 miles) from Rotoava. There is no public transportation on the island, so the accommodations meet arriving guests who have reservations. Relais Marama rents bikes for 1,000CFP (US$13/£6.30) per day. Other pensions have bicycles for their guests. Anyone can rent a scooter or bike from Faka Location (tel. 78.03.37). Scooters cost 5,000CFP (US$63/£32) for a half-day and 8,000CFP (US$100/£51) for 24 hours, while bicycles go for 2,000CFP (US$25/£13) a day. Guests at the Maitai Dream Fakarava resort can charge the rentals to their rooms; everyone else must pay cash.
