Planning a trip to Fiesole
Arriving—Bus no. 7 from Florence departs from Via La Pira, to the right of San Marco. The trip to Fiesole takes 25 minutes, arriving in Fiesole’s main square, Piazza Mino. The one-way fare is 1.50€.
Visitor Information—The tourist office is at Via Portigiani 3 (tel. 055/596-1311). Opening hours vary year to year; generally in April and May, it’s open daily 10am to 1pm and 2 to 5pm; June to September hours are Friday through Monday 10am to 1pm and 4 to 6pm; and in March and October it’s open Friday to Sunday 10am to 1pm and 2 to 4pm. At the tourist office, you can buy a single admission ticket to all of Fiesole’s linked sights for 12€ adults, 8€ ages 7–18; family ticket 24€. Festivals & Markets—Fiesole's biggest event is cultural: 2 months of music, ballet, film, and theater from late June to August called the Estate Fiesolana—sit back under the stars in the restored 1st-century-A.D. Roman theater and listen to Mozart and Verdi. You can get information and tickets in Florence at Box Office or via Fiesole's tourist office; visit www.bitconcerti.it for details of the program. The Festa di San Romolo brings processions and partying all day and fireworks in the evening. There's a market every Saturday in Piazza Mino, and an artisan fair on the first Sunday of each month in the same place.
Getting There
To get to Fiesole, take bus no. 7 from Florence. It departs from Via La Pira, down the right flank of San Marco. A scenic 25-minute ride through the greenery above Florence, takes you to Fiesole’s main square, Piazza Mino.
The tourist office is at Via Portigiani 3 (www.fiesoleforyou.it; tel. 055-596-1311). From March through October it's open daily from 10am–1pm. Afternoon hours vary depending on season: 2pm–4pm in March and October, 2–5pm in April and May, and 2–6pm the rest of the summer. It's closed entirely from November through February.
