Getting There

By Train -- You can't take the train to Filipstad. The nearest station is at Kristinehamn or Karlstad, from which you can make bus connections to Filipstad. For rail information, call tel. 771/75-75-75.

By Bus -- Daily connections are possible from Karlstad. Call tel. 0200/21-82-18 or 0563/532-34 for schedules. The bus ride from Karlstad to Filipstad, a distance of 60km (37 miles), takes about 40 minutes and costs about 50SEK ($10/£5). Most hotels can send a shuttle van to pick up passengers at the bus station, or you can call a cab at tel. 0590/104-00.

By Car -- Follow Route 61 through Arvika to Kil. Drive through Forshaga to Route 63 to Molkom and Filipstad.

The Filipstads Turistbyrå, Stora Torget 3D, S-682 27 Filipstad (tel. 0590/613-54; www.filipstad.se), is open June to July Monday to Friday 9am to 12:30pm and 1 to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm; August to May it's open Monday to Friday 10am to 12:30pm and 1 to 4pm.
