The pioneer settlers in the Siuslaw River area were primarily loggers and fishermen, and the river was their chief means of transportation (and remained so until the 1930s). Housed in a former church building, this museum tells the story of early life in and around Florence with historic displays that include period rooms and artifacts. There’s a small Native American collection, too. For an interesting couple of hours, take the historic walking tour that begins at the museum and winds through Old Town Florence; you can pick up a brochure or download the walking-tour map from the museum’s website.
