La Licorne

Luckily the frugal monks’ lifestyle of the Fontevraud Abbey isn’t replicated at this nearby popular dining spot. Located on a walkway between the abbey and the parish church, this 18th-century bourgeois home exudes the grace of the ancien régime. However, the service isn’t quite as regal and can be somewhat slow. So sit back and relax in its walled garden; the excellent-value menu is certainly worth the wait. It includes refined dishes such as poached sea bream stuffed with shellfish and quinoa grown in the region or royal Maine D’Anjou filet of beef draped in Saumur-Champigny red wine reduction, and such delectable desserts as local Alienor pastries.
