Getting There

Formentera is serviced by up to 36 boat passages a day in summer and about 8 per day in winter. Boats depart from Ciudad de Ibiza, on Ibiza's southern coast, for La Savina (La Sabina), 3km (2 miles) north of the island's capital and largest settlement, Sant Francesc (San Francisco Javier). Depending on the design of the boat you select, passage across the 5km (3-mile) channel separating the islands takes between 35 minutes and 1 hour. A round-trip fare costs from 37€. For information on schedules, call Trasmapi (tel. 97-131-44-33; www.trasmapi.com), although it's usually easier to ask employees at almost any hotel on the island, who are usually well versed in the hours of ferryboats to and from Ibiza.

Getting Around

As ferryboats arrive at the quays of La Sabina, taxis line up at the pier. One-way passage to such points as Es Pujols and Playa de Mitjorn costs 10€ to 15€, but it's always wise to negotiate the fare before the journey begins. To call a taxi in Sant Francesc, dial tel. 97-132-20-16; and in La Sabina, tel. 97-132-20-02. Regardless of when and where you call for a taxi, be prepared to wait.

Car rentals can be arranged through Formotor (tel. 97-132-22-42; www.formotor.com), whose kiosk is at La Sabina, close to where you disembark from the ferryboats.

If you want to enjoy seeing Formentera by bicycle or a motor scooter, you can rent them from Moto-Rent Migjorn in La Sabina (tel. 97-132-23-06; www.motorentmigjorn.com), or from Moto-Rent Pujols in Pujols (tel. 97-132-21-38; www.motorentpujols.com). Motor scooters rent for 25€ to 41€ per day, bicycles for around 6€ to 10€ per day.
