Lago Mar Resort and Club
A charming lobby with a rock fireplace and saltwater aquarium sets the tone of this old school, off the beachy-path resort, a casually elegant piece of Old Florida that occupies its own, 10-acre lush little island between Lake Mayan and the Atlantic. Guests have access to the broadest and best 500-foot-strip of private beach in the entire city, not to mention three pools: one an adults-only oceanfront pool, another large enough for lap swimming and the other a 9,000-square-foot swimming pool lagoon edged with tropical plants. Lago Mar is very family oriented, with many facilities and supervised activities for children. It’s more like a country club than your typical chain beach resort. There’s tennis, pickleball, putting course, beach volleyball, and playground, too. Service is warm and gracious. The rooms and suites have Mediterranean or Key West influences and remind me of a guest room in your grandparents’ Florida home. A full-service spa offers a wide array of treatments. The six-story wing of one- and two-bedroom oceanfront suites with individual balconies and larger luxurious bathrooms includes a deck of native tropical landscaping and a 5,000-square-foot saltwater lagoon.
