Front and center on the beachfront, one of the pioneers of the local luxe lodging renaissance, the Atlantic is a class act, rearing back in 16 tiered stories. Meant to suggest an Italianate palazzo, it does have a Mediterranean flair, paired with a stylish retro-mod interior decor in soft yellows, beiges, creams, and touches of blue. The 124 rooms and suites naturally boast all the mod cons you’d expect in century 21/decade two, and each has a balcony and kitchenette or full kitchen with snazzy granite counters, refrigerator, microwave, and stovetop (if you really want to live it up, there are two- and three-bedroom suites on the top floors, some of which have private elevators). There’s a fetching, 10,000-square-foot-spa; the Ocean Market Grille, which serves up a farm fresh nouvel-eclectic menu (it has a local foodie following); and a fifth-floor terrace with a heated pool and bar overlooking the ocean—very nice indeed.
