Restaurants in Fort Worth
Fort Worth's dining scene may not be as lauded or as flashy as the one in Dallas, but it is increasingly sophisticated, with excellent steakhouses, innovative Southwestern and haute Mexican cuisine alongside family-oriented Tex-Mex and barbecue joints. Although very few hotels are prime dining spots (outside of 610 Grille at the Ashton Hotel), one of the city's vaunted art museums, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, has a terrific fine-dining restaurant for lunch and Sunday brunch, Café Modern (tel. 817/840-2157), overlooking the reflective pool (the restaurant was named one of the best in the U.S. by Gourmet magazine).

Angelo's Barbecue
"I'll take a pound of ribs....just for a snack," the strapping, 6'4 cowboy-booted fellow in front of me told the counterman, and then he proceeded to order most everything else on the menu, from the famous brisket sandwiches (with the works—raw onion, mustard, mayo and a side of BBQ…$Cultural District - Gourmet Southwestern
Bonnell's Fine Texas Cuisine
"Fine Texas Cuisine" sounded like an oxymoron when Chef Jon Bonnell opened his eponymous restaurant in 2001. But Bonnel was able to take what he learned at the New England Culinary Institute and apply it to Western cuisine, hewing closely to a farm–to–table philosophy that has served…$$$Around Town - Steak
Cattlemen's Steakhouse
Cattlemen's has been feeding the fine folks of Fort Worth since 1947. It's a casual, sometimes boisterous and nicely worn place for a thick steak in the heart of cattle country, just a short canter from the Stockyards and rodeo ring. It's fab for families: There are separate rooms,…$$$Stockyards National Historic District - Mexican
Esperanza's Mexican Bakery and Cafe
Part of the Joe T. Garcia-family of restaurants and named for the owners' daughter, Esperanza's may be Fort Worth's favorite place for breakfast. It's served piping hot and with a smile, and ranges from such Mexican specialties as huevos rancheros and chiliquiles to simple eggs,…$Near Stockyards Historic District - Italian
INZO Italian Kitchen
This usually picky-about-pizza New Yorker was wowed by the pies here, which not only hit Big Apple standards, they'd be prized in Naples, too. An strightforward, friendly trattoria INZO's specilaties are those wood-fired pies, along with panini, pasta dishes (the lasagna is to die…$$Cultural District - Tex-Mex
Joe T. Garcia's Mexican Dishes
At this ever popular Cowtown Tex-Mex institution (opened in 1935) just south of the Stockyards, they don't have menus, do only two dinner dishes, and take only cash. But who gives a hoot when the food is this delish? Set in a rambling home (it looks like a handsome Mexican hacienda)…$Stockyards National Historic District - Gourmet Western
Lonesome Dove Western Bistro
The setting couldn't be more "Cowtown": a historic, brick former warehouse (with a classic pressed tin ceiling) centered around a long bar. But when you taste the food, and look a little closer at the groovy pieces of art, and the hipster staff, you'll realize that this place isn't…$$$Stockyards National Historic District - Comfort Food
Love Shack
Right on the main drag, and within spitting distance of his uber-successful Lonesome Dove restaurant, star Chef Tim Love has created this fab burger shack. With mostly outdoor seating, its part counter and part kiosk, and it dispenses delicious burgers on store-bought buns and…$Stockyards National Historic District
