The term B&B doesn’t adequately this luxurious five-star 1840s Gothic Revival heritage property. The period furnishings, the contemporary comforts like walk-in showers and heated ceramic floors, the views of the river, the back garden terrace, the location next to a pleasant riverside walk from the galleries, shops and historic sites of downtown would be enough to recommend it. But owner Debra Quartermain is attuned to her guests’ every need in a way that’s both unusual and quite lovely to experience. And then there’s breakfast! Fresh pastries, soufflés, frittatas, and treats like braised pears with maple syrup and cinnamon-dusted strawberries are de rigeur.
