A traditional Bavarian guesthouse outside Schangau, just below King Ludiwg’s extravaganza, supplies endless views of the mountains (and glimpses of the famous castles) and makes the most of its pretty Alpine setting, with balconies, a sunny cafe terrace downstairs, and all sorts of outdoor activities on tap. Decor in each of the individually decorated rooms takes a nice neutral tack, with lots of handsome wood, though a Ludwig room veers off into some mural-heavy extravagance. The in-house restaurant serves Bavarian specialties.
