Galiano is an elongated string bean of an island stretched along the Gulf Islands' eastern flank. Though Galiano looks, on the map, like just a long, skinny sand spit, it is in fact the crest of an underground mountain range, with rocky, cliff-faced shorelines and dense forests.

Galiano is the closest Gulf Island to Vancouver, and many of the properties here are second homes of the city's elite. The rural yet genteel feel of the island is perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing break from the hassles of urban life. However, don't come to Galiano looking for high-octane nightlife or boutique shopping. There isn't much of a town on the island, just a few shops and galleries at Sturdies Bay. However, there are a number of notable and unique eateries and excellent inns and B&Bs.
