Getting There

By Plane -- There are two direct flights per day from Stockholm. There also are several commuter planes daily through Umeå to the Lapland Airport at Gällivare, which is 8km (5 miles) NE of the center of town. Instead, passengers can pay for a shared taxi, at 100SEK ($20/£10) per person each way. Call Swedline (tel. 0495/24-90-50) for information and schedules.

By Train -- The night train from Stockholm leaves about midday, allowing you to wake up in the center of Gällivare in the morning in time for breakfast. For information and schedules, call tel. 0771/75-75-75.

By Bus -- The Regional Express has convenient daily runs that link the center of Gällivare with Luleå, Ostersund, and Narvik in Norway. For information and schedules, call tel. 0200/21-82-18.

By Car -- From Jokkmokk, continue northeast along Route 45.

Visitor Information

Tourist Information, Centralplan 3, SE-982 36 Gällivare (tel. 0970/166-60; www.visit.gellivare.se), is normally open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. But from June 19 to August 13, it keeps daily hours 8am to 10pm when the sun is still shining.
