VISITOR INFORMATION

Contact the Verkehrsamt, Richard-Strauss-Platz 2 (tel. 08821/180700; www.garmisch-partenkirchen.de). It’s open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, and Sunday and holidays 10am to noon. The tourist office arranges free bookings in local guesthouses.

GETTING AROUND

You don’t need a car here, but having one makes getting around a little easier. A free municipal bus runs every 15 minutes from 6am to 8pm between the Bahnhof (train station) and Marienplatz, Garmisch’s main square. A network of 10 funiculars and cable-cars departing from the train station and the borders of the town carry visitors up local peaks.
