Hôtel les Armures is an intimate and historic hotel, located at the top of the Old Town, that was converted from four buildings dating from the 13th to 17th centuries. The guest rooms blend modern furnishings with original decorative details, such as painted ceilings, frescoes, wood beams, exposed stonework, and open fireplaces. For the best view, request a room overlooking the quiet, shaded square with its ancient fountain.  You may find yourself rubbing shoulders with celebrities here: The hotel’s guest list has included luminaries such as Queen Sofia of Spain, Sofia Loren, Paul McCartney, Monica Seles, and George Clooney. There’s even a plaque near the front door commemorating Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s visit in 1994. (And if you're hungry, you won't have to go far: The hotel's restaurant—a cozy wood-beamed eatery adorned with muskets and armor—is a fondue institution. )
