Known locally as the “Town Clock” after the oversized timepiece that dominates the Old Market Building, this fascinating museum chronicles the history of the local rice trade from 1750 through dioramas, maps, artifacts, and other exhibits. Next door in old Kaminski Hardware Building, the Maritime Museum Gallery contains the 50-foot-long Browns Ferry Vessel, built in the early 1700s and sunk around 1730—it is the oldest vessel on exhibit in the United States (it was discovered in 1976).
